Ariadne Installation
2024, Mixed media on burlap, 10’8” x approximately 175’

For the launch of Matthew Fisher’s Ariadne Collection at the Remains Lighting showroom in New York, Leonard Porter Studio proposed covering the walls with painted decoration, transforming the space into an immersive world to showcase Fisher’s work.
The abstract forms found in the collection are located in their actual mythological context. The visitor proceeds through a darkened vestibule flanked by a pair of archaic columns to a spare landscape populated by a monumental reclining figure of Ariadne, animals and ancient glyphs, including the minotaur’s labyrinth.
The work is over 175’ in total length. It was painted on rough burlap with a border of natural canvas. The work was completed in less than a month with assistance (and assistants) from Remains Lighting Co.
Special thanks to David Calligeros, Matthew Fisher, Leeann Latsch and everyone at Remains Lighting.
